Me versus Tim Wood, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu deathmatch!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
While getting destroyed at jiu jitsu practice today, I couldn't help but think about my old Lean buddy Tim Wood. Tim Wood is an easy way to remember the 7 wastes (Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Overprocessing and Defects). What the heck does waste have to do with jiu jitsu you ask? Well, everything. I've found that the key to jiu jitsu is the elimination of waste. Every motion should serve a purpose, whether its executing a move or baiting your opponent into another move. Great jiu jitsu practitioners are masters at eliminating waste and not giving their opponents an inch. If they give you any space, its because their sucking you into their trap! In a factory, every motion should be to add value to your product or should be setting you up to add value. You win today Mr. Wood, but vengeance shall be mine. Time to go put an icepack on...
